01
The place
The Alentejo is Portugal at its least hurried. Villages sit on low hills above wheat fields, storks nest on chimneys, and dinner rarely starts before nine.
Our home here is a working estate, so mornings smell of woodsmoke and cut grass. We walk to the reservoir before breakfast and come back to bread from the village oven.
Where we stay
Herdade do Sobreiro
A restored 19th-century farm estate on 60 hectares of olive and cork groves, with twelve guest rooms, a stone yoga barn and a spring-fed pool.
Amenities
Spring-fed pool · Stone yoga barn · Wood-fired sauna · Olive grove trails · Farm kitchen
Getting there
Fly into Lisbon (LIS). Shared transfers leave the airport at 14:00 on arrival day; the drive takes about two hours.
